چکیده

The Biot model is widely used to model poroelastic media. Several authors have tested its applicability to cancellous bone, but to do so requires a priori estimation of the parameters of the Biot model, which is an uncertain and expensive endeavor. The question this article addresses is whether the sort of experiments described by these authors in fact can be used to determine the parameters of the Biot model. A method of computing acoustic pressure in the low 100 kHz range is developed. A parameter recovery algorithm which uses parallel processing is developed and tested. It is found that when it is assumed that the agreement between calculated and measured data is about two digits, porosity can be determined to within about 1-2% and permeability, pore size and the bulk moduli to within about 40%.

Determination of the Parameters of Cancellous Bone Using High Frequency Acoustic Measurements Ii: Inverse Problems

In a precursor to this article the Biot model was used to model poroelastic media. The question this article addresses is whether the sort of experiments described by McKelvie and Palmer, Williams, and Hosokawa and Otani can be used to determine the parameters of the Biot model. A method of computing acoustic pressure in the low 100 kHz range was developed in Buchanan and Gilbert, “Determinatio...

Determination of sediments diameter using acoustic waves

The use of acoustic waves in researches related to sea water is of most importance among scientists recently. Since these waves are the only waves, transmitted in water with lowest attenuation and high speed, they can be used in many scientific fields. The main goal of this research is to better understand the physics and mechanisms of sound-seabed interaction, including acoustic penetration, p...

Assessment of Fourier Tools for Cancellous Bone Structure Analysis

The usefulness of Fourier analyses as a tool for determining key parameters of cancellous bone structure is investigated. The autocorrelation function is used to determine measures of preferred orientation of trabeculae and anisotropy. Peaks in the power spectrum are used to determine average trabecular strut spacing. Good agreement and high correlations were observed when these frequency domai...

Acoustic Study of an Auditorium by the Determination of Reverberation Time and Speech Transmission Index

The quality of the communication between teachers and students and ultimately, of classroom education itself, is closely linked to the acoustic quality of the auditorium. This acoustic quality can be characterized based on the reverberation time (RT), speech transmission index (STI) and the sound insulation. In this context, an acoustic study was conducted in an auditorium located in the Higher...

Evaluating the Effects of Dual Frequency Sonication Parameters on Acoustic Cavitation by Chemical Dosimeter Using Iodide

Background and Aims: Production of acoustic cavitation by sonication has been recently recommended as a targeted treatment. The experimental results from studies indicate that the activity of cavitation generated by bi- or multi-frequency ultrasound irradiation is higher than that caused by single frequency irradiation. In this study, effects dual (1 MHz and 40 kHz) and single frequency soni...
